The Colour of Attentiveness

Residency⎪Poos, Oosterbeek⎪June 2025
During my residency at POOS, I experimented with a more meditative approach within my practice — a way of working that encourages attentiveness and a more conscious way of living, using colour as a means of being present in the moment. I explored how observing attentively can contribute to a more intense experience of colour in our immediate surroundings.
While making daily walks in and around Oosterbeek during the, I observed the colours present in the landscape. I deliberately sought moments of stillness: I looked around, stood still, switched off my hearing aids, zoomed in on the colours around me, allowed my thoughts to wander, and spent longer periods in one place.
The colour combinations of that specific moment and place were recorded on site in oil pastels. I translated these notes into a series of works on paper and a mural. In the execution, the emphasis lay on creating a visual translation that remains faithful to the essence of the original colour notes — recording a moment of colour experience.
