The Colour Story

Master Research⎪2019-2021
My masters research The Colour Story – an exploration on revealing subjective colour experiences (PietZwart Institute, Rotterdam) took place from 1 September 2019-1 July 2021. The Colour Story focuses on the value of subjective colour perception as a way to build knowledge on colour. With The Colour Story I question theoretical paradigms, ontological assumptions and constructs of colour. Through dialogue, observation exercises, and hands-on visual experiments, I have researched ways to develop colour concepts alongside existing colour theories. My research has led to a framework for revealing personal perception of colour, consisting of 3 principles; attentiveness, revelation and notation. My research practice is relational, the interaction between researcher and participant was an important element; together we shape the experience and knowledge on colour. My research was nominated for the Master-Research Award 2021.
